'I want to be one of the leading artists of Afrobeats' – Ayra Starr

Grammy Nominee Ayra Starr has expressed her aspiration to emerge as one of the foremost figures in Afrobeats. The 21-year-old emphasized her ambition for the genre to achieve global dominance.

She said “My hope for Afrobeats is for it to be the biggest genre in the world. Because it deserves to be. Other genres of music are great, but there’s nothing like Afrobeat. Even the sad music makes you feel good. So, I want Afrobeats to be the biggest genre in the world and I would love to be one of the leading artists".

During her interview with Cosmopolitan Ayra Starr shared the origin story and meaning behind her name. The Afrobeat singer said that her name has ties to Yoruba and Arabic origin. In Arabic, Ayra means open-minded and respected. She also disclosed that Don Jazzy was the person who gave her the name Starr.

She also spoke about her mental health and how fame caused her to have Imposter Syndrome. She said "I had imposter syndrome around a certain time in my life. I feel like it was needed for character development but now I don't and I am sure I never will again. I am Ayra Starr. I wasn't sure if I deserved this. My music blew up. It was a lot but I had to teach myself that I belong here".

She revealed that Seyi Vibez will be one of the featured artists on her upcoming Sophomore album. The upcoming album will be released in two months.
