Gospel singer, Buchi recounts near-death experience that transformed his faith

Renowned Nigerian gospel singer, Buchi Atuonwu has shared a harrowing account of a life-altering incident that nearly claimed his life.

Speaking in an interview with Channels Television on Friday, April 26, 2024, the lyrical evangelist recounted how he narrowly escaped death by firing squad, a moment that propelled him towards a deeper connection with God.

Atuonwu revealed the intense moment of facing execution, recalling how the executioners were poised to fire, kneeling before him. In a desperate plea to a higher power, Atuonwu prayed to God, making a solemn promise to serve Him if his life was spared.

Reflecting on the pivotal moment, Atuonwu expressed gratitude for the divine intervention that saved him from certain death. He recounted, "It is true that I called out to a God I didn’t know. ‘If you save me, I’ll serve you’. Let me just say that he saved me from that firing squad, and I devoted my life to serving him."

Since that transformative encounter, Atuonwu has dedicated his life to serving God through his music and ministry, using his talents to spread messages of faith, hope, and redemption.
