Fola shares behind-the-scenes story of linking up with Wizkid, DJ Tunez and his surprise encounter with Davido

Fast-rising Afrobeats artist Fola has opened up about a career-defining run of events that saw him unexpectedly connect with Davido and later land a major studio session with Wizkid and DJ Tunez, a collaboration that continues to push his growing mainstream presence.
Speaking in a recent interview, Fola described the past few months as a turning point, recalling how he met Davido just a day before the interview. He shared that the viral video he posted of them together at a club quickly drew reactions online, marking a surreal moment for him as an emerging act.
But the biggest moment came shortly after, when he received an unexpected call inviting him to collaborate with Wizkid and DJ Tunez. At the time, Fola was in Bristol for an event, having left London only hours earlier. The call which came with the familiar slang “Bad boy” initially sounded like a prank, but it was, in fact, Wizkid’s team trying to reach him.
Fola admitted he was devastated when he realized he was in the wrong city at the wrong time. He recalled thinking, “I need to be in the city with Big Wiz… I was so pained.” Although he feared the opportunity would slip away, Wizkid’s team assured him to reach out once he returned to London.
He made it back the next day but heard nothing for a while, leading to a tense wait. “I was like, ‘Oh my God, that one won’t change my life!’” he said, recalling the anxiety.
The long-awaited follow-up came unexpectedly while he was at a Chelsea vs. Fulham match. He received a message that read, “My Burna say, ‘Studio tomorrow,’” which he explained was a casual reference to Wizkid. He was given a number to call, and the moment the person on the line said, “Let me tell Wiz,” Fola knew the collaboration was real.
He arrived at the studio the next day and finally met Wizkid in person. Together with DJ Tunez, they recorded what the interviewer described as “one of the biggest records in 2022 and five,” marking a milestone moment in Fola’s career.
When asked whether luck played a role in his rise, Fola credited consistency and faith: “I’ve put in the hard work, God just crowned the efforts.”
His account offers a candid look into the unpredictable but rewarding journey of a new artist navigating Nigeria’s fast-paced music industry, where timing, persistence, and preparation can open unexpected doors.
