Nigerian music sensation Adedamola Adefolahan, popularly known as Fireboy DML, has opened up about the emotional toll his tattoos have had on his relationship with his father.

Speaking on a recent episode of the 90s Baby Show, the Afrobeats star admitted that his body art has left his father heartbroken, adding that it’s something the older man may never come to terms with.

“One thing that I would do that can break my dad’s heart? I think I already did – my tattoos,” Fireboy DML revealed. “Whenever he comes to visit, I make sure I’m wearing a jalabiya, fully covered. Because tattoos, they break his heart every time he sees them.”

While his father appears to be unbothered by his piercings, Fireboy DML said his tattoos are a different matter entirely. Despite the tension, Fireboy noted that his decision to get inked was personal and not solely tied to his identity as an artist.

“Even if I ended up as a banker, I would still have tattoos,” he said. “It’s not even about being a musician for me. I see tattoos as a form of art. Sometimes, I want to be shirtless and still look dressed. That’s the presence they give me.”

Known for his introspective lyrics and bold style, Fireboy continues to carve out a unique space for himself in the Afrobeats scene, even as his choices stir reactions beyond the stage.
