For the past week, people across countries around the world have held protests, despite the present COVID-19 pandemic, to take a stand against the century-long racism and violence perpetrated on the people of colour, especially black people. Also in Nigeria, there have been protests to bring awareness to the violence against women and young girls by predators in different parts of the country.

Joining protesters around the world, Nigerian Disc Jockey, DJ Cuppy took to the streets on the 7th of June, 2020 to take a stand against racism, sexual violence and sexual assault against women which she later posted on Twitter. Opening up on her reason for joining the protest, DJ Cuppy expressed how terrible she would feel if she was just a bystander in this historical times, and talked about the need to contribute to the voices of the brave people across the world who are standing up for human rights.

She said;

"I honestly thought of so many reasons to NOT protest, but the truth is I wouldn’t be able to LIVE with myself if I didn’t go support!✊? Straight after my radio show, I joined my brothers and sisters who are protesting injustice faced by black people globally! #BlackLivesMatter"
