Nigerian global music stars Wizkid and Tems have reached another impressive milestone as their collaborative hit Essence has officially been certified 3x Platinum in New Zealand.

According to a recent update from Recorded Music NZ, Essence achieved this certification on July 17, 2025, signifying over 60,000 units sold in the country. The track, released in 2020 as part of Wizkid’s Made in Lagos album, continues to break records and garner global acclaim nearly five years after its debut.

Often described as the “song of the summer” in 2021, Essence was praised for its lush production and smooth fusion of Afrobeats and R&B. The song also marked a historic moment for Nigerian music, becoming the first Afrobeats track to break into the Billboard Hot 100 and receiving a remix featuring Justin Bieber.

This latest certification adds to the song’s long list of achievements and highlights its enduring popularity across continents. It also reinforces the global impact of both Wizkid and Tems, whose collaborative synergy on Essence has played a significant role in pushing Afrobeats further into mainstream markets.
