Chelsea suffer 3 injury blows in woeful premier league outing at Goodison Park
The season keeps moving from bad to worse for Chelsea as the head coach Mauricio Pochettino has confirmed that the Blues have now suffered three additional injuries in the club's woeful outing at Goodison Park.
Pochettino in his post-match interview after Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat in the hands of Everton who had initially suffered a 10 points deduction in the league, confirmed that his side saw the captain Reece James, left-back Marc Cucurella and goalkeeper Robert Sanchez all pick up injuries in the defeat.
Reece James injury update
Chelsea's captain Reece James was the first player of Chelsea to be substituted off, many had initially expressed concerns as to if the England international had been subbed off due to illness but it was later confirmed that the substitution had been injury-related.
Pochettino in his post-match press conference after Chelsea's defeat confirmed that Reece James had indeed suffered a hamstring injury but regarding the update as to how serious it might be, he did not have the answer to that. He said, 'Reece felt something in his hamstring. For sure he’s injured, but we don’t know how serious it is. Of course for us he is an important player, one of the best full-backs in the world. It is really disappointing because after 15 or 20 minutes we were playing well and I think this type of circumstance makes us change, because of course Malo Gusto is recovering from his injury. We hadn’t given away many chances and then you need to move things to make some changes. Even when Reece went off the team was pushing and playing well. But we are disappointed because when you believe you can build something and a player like him who should be really important for us can’t help the team. We go back and assess again in the next few days what is going on with his hamstring.'
Marc Cucurella injury update
Marc Cucurella picked up a knock in the second half of the game against Everton and had been subbed off with Ian Maatsen filling the big gap left behind by the left back who moved to the right-back position after Reece had been subbed off.

Pochettino also revealed in his injury update about Marc Cucurella that the Spanish international had twisted his ankle and he hopes that the injury is not one that keeps him out of the side for a long time.
He said, 'That is the same for Marc Cucurella, who twisted his ankle. We hope that these issues are not big. These are the circumstances we have been dealing with since the start and it is too much for a young team that needs to have all the elements together if we want to build something solid.'
Robert Sanchez injury update
Chelsea's first choice goalkeeper, Robert Sanchez also picked up a knock in the game against Everton as the Spanish international was substituted off in the second half of the game.
Poch also revealed that Sanchez had picked up a knock on his knee but did not have any further update on how severe the injury might be.
What is next for Chelsea?
With Chelsea dropping to 12th place and just winning 5 games in 16, there is room for concern as to what exactly is happening in the camp. Before the start of the 2023/2024 season, many had attributed the loss of the Blues in the previous season to players not being committed to the club and this led to a full clearout as the management through their actions showed 'out with the old and in with the new.'
The problem, however, persists which now raises another question' Were the past players really the problem?' Things are far from getting back to normal at the Bridge and we might be wrong but Mauricio Pochettino does not seem like the man for the job.
