Jamaica's Bounty Killer Speaks On "Afrobeats Lacking Lyrics", Cites a Burna Boy Song

The veteran Jamaican Disc Jockey aired his thoughts on the buzzing Afrobeats Genre.

Jamaican reggae and dancehall disk jockey, Rodney Basil Price, popularly known as Bounty Killer, has shared his views on the lyrical strength of Afrobeats.

The veteran entertainment in a recent interview spoke on Afrobeats recent success in the global scene, dancehall and other interesting topics around the two genres.

While speaking in the interview, the DJ made it know that the emergence of Afrobeats on the global scene doesn't not mean its the end of the road for Dancehall in that same space. Speaking on Afrobeats, the patois DJ opined that Afrobeats only has melodies and themes, but lack Lyrics.

To back up his claim, Bounty cited Burna Boy's smash tune 'Ye', claiming that the song lacks lyrical content. He said:

Afrobeats have no lyrics; they have a lot of melody, grove, and topic. Ye ye ye is not a lyric; it is a topic. The song only has a style, melody and topic."

The Jamaican OG also went on to criticise the new crop of dancehall artistes, claiming that they refuse to have tangible topics (theme) in their music.

In the same vein, Bounty also claimed that the reason why Afrobeats is moving at a great pace is the unity that exist between the African Artistes, something which he claimed Jamaican artistes greatly lack.
