In her typical fashion, Angelique Kidjo has achieved another first record for African artists as she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Beninese music icon Angélique Kidjo has made history as the first Black African artist to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

The four-time Grammy Award winner was honoured for her remarkable contribution to music and her decades-long career spanning African music, global sounds and cultural advocacy.

During her acceptance speech, Kidjo reflected on Africa’s immense influence on global music and the continent’s often-underappreciated contribution to the art form.

“We Africans just don’t know what we’ve given to the world, and what we continue giving to the world for the music to exist. Without us, there’s no music possible on this planet.”

The historic recognition adds another milestone to a career that has seen Kidjo collaborate with some of the biggest names in international music while consistently using her platform to celebrate African culture and advocate for social causes.

Her Hollywood Walk of Fame star represents not only a personal achievement but also a significant moment of recognition for African music and its influence on global culture.

With the honour, Kidjo becomes part of the iconic Hollywood landmark, further cementing her legacy as one of Africa’s most influential musical voices on the international stage.
