2Baba, Davido, Simi, Niniola Featured In The New Yorker As "The Nigerian Musicians Changing The Sound of Global Pop"
Some of Nigeria's artistes have been announced by an American Magazine, The New Yorker as the artistes changing the sound of global pop. Featured musicians are legendary 2Baba, Simi, Adekunle Gold, and his band 79th Element, Davido, Niniola, Skales, Seyi Shay, Falana, Mars and Barzini, and Maka,
These artistes range from the very popularly to the not so popularly with Tuface Idibia being the bridge that connects the artistes of his time with the new generation artistes and also the legend that inspires the new crops of afrobeat talent. While we might not be familiar with every artiste in the article, it is important to note that they have been recognized for their unique sounds in their craft.
The writer, Kelefa Sanneh used 2Baba as a representation of how the Nigerian music has evolved from his Nfana Ibaga days (which was cited) to his present Gaga Shuffle time which the writer believes comes as a result of Tuface trying to meet up to the tempo of the present singers. In his words;
2Baba has to compete with younger peers nowadays, so his music has grown sleeker and more up-tempo. Last summer, he released an infectious dance track called “Gaga Shuffle.”
