The Nigerian music industry is brimming with extremely talented singers who can cause the sky to shed tears with their powerful voices. There are certain singers you’d listen to and your ears would be tickling with excitement.

In a music industry that’s chiefly patriarchal, there is an increasing number of female folks who are designing a space for themselves and changing the paradigm. Employing their voices as tools, these women are working effortfully to secure a place in the industry.

Without cracking our skulls open, we can quite easily mention a few women who possess enrapturing voices whose songs bring comfort and joy to any listener. We have decided to piece together a list of the best Nigerian female vocalists.

Omawumi

If it was possible to use one’s vocals to make the earth swivel, Omawumi would be charged with that duty. Omawumi’s voice is sweeter than berry. She gained prominence when she emerged as the runner-up at the 2007 West African Idols.

Omawumi is highly regarded because of her captivating vocals. She has since worked with several artists including Eldee, Falz, Shank, Naeto C, and many others. She has released three studio albums (Wonderful Woman, Lasso of the Truth, and Timeless). She has won several awards.

Waje came into the limelight when her outstanding vocals on P-Square’s critically-acclaimed single Do Me received massive attention. Also, she was responsible for the hook on M.I’s One Naira.

She has two studio albums to her name and has dropped numerous singles. She is well known for having a voice that covers three octaves.

Asa

Asa

Asa’s music is divine and has the ability to heal. She released her debut album which was self-titled which was produced by the legendary Cobhams Asuquo.

She studied at the IMFP school of Jazz music. Her score of hit singles includes Eye Adaba, Bibanke, Jailer, Be My Man, and more. She has released four albums (Asa, Live in Paris, Beautiful Imperfection, Bed of Stone).

Asa is a musical deity. She has built a solid fan base for herself both locally and internationally.

Tiwa Savage

Tiwa’s CV is one of the most impressive in the Nigerian music industry. A Nigerian singer and songwriter. She has an international deal with Roc Nation and has written songs (and done backup) for several international artists such as Mary J Blige, Whitney Houston, George Michael, and many others.

Tiwa has fire vocals and this has been evident in her songs Kele Kele Love, Without My Heart, Wanted, and more. She has won many awards and has released three albums (Once Upon A Time, R.E.D, Sugarcane).

Simi

Simi

Starting out as a gospel singer, Simi has grown immensely as a singer and songwriter. Thanks to her astounding vocals, she gained prominence in no time.

Her single Tiff was widely received with acclaim and helped her to gain recognition. She has since released two studio albums, an EP and numerous singles.

She is also a sound engineer and has mixed and mastered a couple of projects including Adekunle Gold’s Gold album.

Niniola

Niniola

Niniola is one of the most unique voices in the Nigerian music industry. Her music is a fusion of Afro and South African House. She mostly sings in her native dialect.

She entered the limelight when she competed in the sixth edition of Project Fame West Africa. Her debut single Ibadi which was produced by the legendary Sarz was a commercial success. She has released several hit singles including Soke, Shabba, Maradona, and many more.

Teni Entertainer

Teni Entertainer

A natural entertainer whose goofy side makes her audience find her very interesting and relatable. With her vocals as an added bonus, Teni is making her way in the Nigerian music industry.

She amassed a fan base by posting freestyle videos on her Instagram page. She has released a number of banging songs such as Askamaya, Wait, Uyo Meyo, and others.

She won the award for Rookie of the Year at the 2018 Headies Awards and Best New Artist at the 2018 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival.
