1st Record Label Owned By A Woman, 'Do OR Die Entertainment' Launches in Lagos

First record label owned by a woman, Do or Die Entertainment launched in Nigeria on Saturday, 13th of February, 2021 amid fanfare and cosiness at their office at Empire Homes, Chevron Lekki, Lagos.

The event had in attendance the CEO, Ruth Adjaloko Danmola who is an American based Ghanaian, the new signee Adewale Muees Odekoya popularly known as Da great and the in house producer Samuel Nzube known as Dex Star and a lot of media outfits.

At the event, the essence and meaning behind the name was explained “If you don’t work towards a dream, no matter what it is, then it dies” Ruth said when she was asked why the name. The CEO explained that the record label is open to signing new artistes who are ready and willing to work with the record label. She also expatiated that the organization is not only looking to work in the music industry, they also intend to produce movies in the near future.

The event had in attendance some industry experts like Excel who was just appointed the Head of Content Acquisition at Boomplay Nigeria, Lanre Lawal Brymo’s manager and Bode Blaq.

However, the record label only has one artiste they are working with currently who has just released a single titled Canopy.

Da Great (Do or Die Ent. artiste)

Adewale Muees Odekoya whose stage name is Da Great  and also known as OoshaNla was born on the 4th of July 1995 in Bariga Lagos, Nigeria. He was raised by his parents and spent his teenage years in Shomolu and Egbeda. Da Great attended Laspo Tech. While in school he realized he wanted to pursue music, so at the age of 17 he started making music professionally.His mother played a major role in him become so interested in music. She will constantly play music daily in their home.Aside of music Da Great can act, barb hair and play football.

The genre of music he creates are Afo Music, Reggae,RnB and Dancehall.Hating to be boxed in,Da Great always put his own unique twists on his music. Fela, Asa, 2Face, Tpain and Wonde Cole are some of the musical artists who inspires him. In 2016, Do or Die Entertainment discovered Da Great and officially signed him in 2020.

 

Dex Star (Do or Die Ent. Producer)

Samuel Nzube better known as “Dex Star” is a fast-rising music producer with Do or Die Entertainment. He was born November 7 in Surulere Lagos but grew up in Orile Iganmu. He comes from a family of four boys. His parents are music lovers, which built the love of music in him. Although his dad was a businessman, he was also a par time Dj. He grew up listening to all genres of music.

Dexter graduated from Gbaja Boys High School. He started doing music while he was still in high school but begun taking it more seriously when he was trying to secure admission into a higher institution. Some of his musical influences are Major Lazer, Pharrell Williams, Masterkraft Dj Maphorisa and Dj Snake to name a few. When not making music, he enjoys playing football, basketball, watching educational content on YouTube.

Mrs. Ruby (Do or Die Entertainment Founder)

Ruth Adjaloko-Danmola, is a Ghanaian American who is based in New York. She attended Deks Preparatory School in Tema, Ghana until her family relocated to the United State of America, the Bronx to be exact in 1995. In New York she continued her education and earned her Business Administration and Nursing degrees. In 2016 she became the CEO and founder of Do or Die Entertainment. Die Entertainment currently operates in the United States, Ghana and Nigeria. Mrs Danmola is blessed with a wonderful husband and two amazing children.
