Bayern Munich's head coach, Vincent Kompany, has reportedly been rushed to the hospital after collapsing during training at the club.

Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany has reportedly been taken to hospital after an emergency medical response at the club's training ground in Munich on Friday.

According to German publication BILD, an emergency doctor attended to the 40-year-old Belgian before he was transported by ambulance. An air ambulance helicopter was also reportedly seen landing at Bayern's Säbener Straße training complex.

Bayern Munich, in an official statement, have confirmed the news, stating that Kompany will undergo a thorough examination in the hospital and remain there for the time being.

The statement read, "Vincent Kompany in medical care. Vincent Kompany had to seek medical treatment on Friday after collapsing during training for FC Bayern's amateurs. The first-team coach had been watching the second team's session. Kompany will undergo thorough examination in the hospital and remain in medical care. For the time being, his coaching staff will manage training and match operations."

The reported hospitalisation comes after the Bayern boss revealed he had been battling a severe viral infection over the past week.

Speaking after Wednesday's 2-2 Champions League draw against Arsenal, Kompany admitted that he had continued working despite feeling unwell, eventually reaching a point where his body could no longer cope.

The illness had already affected his routine at the German club, with reports indicating that he struggled with basic movements, including climbing stairs, due to complications involving old scar tissue.

Kompany's condition also forced him to miss some first-team training sessions earlier in the week, while assistant coach Aaron Danks took over media duties in his absence.

Addressing the situation on Tuesday, Danks stressed that the priority was to allow the manager sufficient time to recover without putting pressure on him to return prematurely.

Despite his ongoing health concerns, Kompany was back on the touchline for Bayern's Champions League encounter with Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday.

Further information is expected as the situation develops.
