Burna Boy becomes first artist to top Afrobeats Power Ranking in consecutive months

Burna Boy has become the first artist to hold the No. 1 position on the Afrobeats Power Ranking in consecutive months, topping the chart in both June and July 2026.
The Grammy winner Burna Boy now holds five No. 1 placements on the ranking, more than any other artist in its history.
Three of those chart peaks came within the 2025 calendar year, in March, May and August. That run made him the first and only artist to reach No. 1 three times in a single year.
His second No. 1 of 2025, in May, also delivered a first. He became the first artist to top the ranking twice in a calendar year. Tyla matched the feat in December 2025, when she returned to the top spot after previously peaking in February 2025.
The June and July 2026 double now leaves Burna Boy alone in the ranking's record book.
Three other artists have each recorded two No. 1 placements on the chart.
Wizkid topped the ranking in January 2025 and January 2026. Tems reached No. 1 in September 2025 and February 2026. Tyla, in addition to her December 2025 return, first peaked in February 2025.
None of the three has held the top spot in consecutive months. None has reached No. 1 three times in a single calendar year.
The Afrobeats Power Ranking measures composite artist performance across streaming, radio, cultural reach and related metrics. Retaining the No. 1 position requires an artist to outperform the entire field's new releases and campaigns from one month to the next.
If Burna Boy holds the top spot for August 2026, he will set a further record as the first artist to record three consecutive No. 1 placements on the chart.
Chart data as of the end of July 2026.
