Liverpool completes the signing of former Barcelona defender

Liverpool have completed the signing of Ronald Araújo from Barcelona on a season-long loan deal for the 2026/27 campaign.

The Uruguay international has now joined the Reds after Liverpool reached an agreement with Barcelona for the experienced defender. The move is subject to the necessary international clearance and work permit requirements.

Araújo arrives at Anfield with significant experience at the highest level and is expected to provide an important boost to Liverpool’s defensive options.

The 27-year-old is capable of playing at centre-back and right-back, giving the club additional versatility at the back. The defender has also established himself as a leader during his time at Barcelona and has represented Uruguay at international level.

His physicality, defensive ability and experience make him a valuable addition to Liverpool's squad for the new season. Araújo has already completed his first training session as a Liverpool player and will now begin adapting to life at the club under head coach Andoni Iraola.

Liverpool will hope the Uruguayan can make an immediate impact as they prepare for another demanding campaign across domestic and European competitions.
