Chelsea transfer ban: Can the Blues still sign players in 2026?
Here is an insight as to if Chelsea can still sign players in 2026 following their 2-year transfer ban handed to them by the English FA.
Chelsea have been handed a £10 million fine and a suspended two-window transfer ban after admitting to 74 breaches of the English Football Association's regulations relating to football agents, intermediaries and third-party investment in players.
The sanctions were confirmed by the FA after an investigation that stemmed from the club's current ownership self-reporting historical misconduct following its takeover of Chelsea.
According to the FA, Chelsea admitted to 74 breaches of FA Rule E1.2 before an independent Regulatory Commission. The commission initially imposed a £10 million financial penalty and a six-point deduction, with the points deduction suspended until June 30, 2027.
However, Chelsea appealed the suspended points deduction. An independent Appeal Board upheld the appeal and removed that sanction, replacing it with a suspended registration ban covering two complete and consecutive transfer windows, also suspended until June 30, 2027.
This means Yes Chelsea can still sign players this summer and the Blues will be free to register players as normal even in 2026 unless they commit further breaches before the suspension expires. Should the conditions of the suspension be breached, the club could be prevented from registering players for two successive transfer windows.
The £10 million fine was not appealed and will stand. The FA confirmed that the full amount will be invested into grassroots football across England.
The governing body also revealed that its investigation is continuing into potential individual misconduct connected to the case.
