FIFA announces the Best Goal of the 2026 FIFA World Cup

FIFA has officially named Sidny Lopes Cabral of Cape Verde as the winner of the Goal of the Tournament award at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Cabral earned the honour for his sensational long-range strike against Argentina in the Round of 32, a goal that captured the imagination of football fans worldwide and topped the public vote. Despite Cape Verde's 3-2 defeat, the spectacular effort became one of the defining moments of the tournament.

The 24-year-old full-back curled an unstoppable effort into the top corner from outside the penalty area, leaving the Argentine goalkeeper with no chance. The goal highlighted both Cabral's technical quality and Cape Verde's impressive debut campaign on football's biggest stage.

Unlike the Golden Boot or Golden Ball, the Goal of the Tournament is selected through a public fan vote. Supporters from around the world cast millions of votes after FIFA released a shortlist of the competition's best goals.
