Achraf Hakimi set to stand trial for rape

SHARE

The captain of Morocco Achraf Hakimi is set to stand trial in France after the Paris Court of Appeal ruled that there is enough evidence for criminal proceedings to move forward over an alleged rape dating back to February 2023.

The decision marks the latest development in a case that has attracted widespread attention since the allegations first emerged. The Paris Saint-Germain and Morocco defender has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

The player’s legal team has maintained that the accusations are false and has expressed confidence that the trial will clear his name. The alleged incident reportedly took place at Hakimi's home near Paris, where a woman accused the defender of sexual assault.

It was later requested by the prosecutors that the case proceed to trial after a lengthy investigation, a recommendation that the appeals court has now upheld.

When is the date for Hakimi's trial for rape?

There is no trial date announced, but the case is expected to be one of the most closely followed involving a high-profile footballer. Hakimi remains eligible to play while the legal process continues, as the decision to proceed to trial does not constitute a finding of guilt.

Hakimi has been a key figure for both Paris Saint-Germain and the Moroccan national team in recent seasons and at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
