CAF confirms rescheduling of WAFCON 2026

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially confirmed that the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) has been rescheduled.
CAF announced the change of date on Thursday, 5 March 2026, explaining that the change was made after consultations with FIFA and other key stakeholders involved in organising the competition. The governing body confirmed that it was necessary to ensure the successful staging of Africa’s flagship women’s football tournament.
In its statement, CAF said the new dates were agreed upon “in light of certain unforeseen circumstances”while assuring fans and teams that preparations for the tournament are ongoing and progressing well.
CAF confirmed that the tournament, which was initially set to take place from 17 March to 3 April 2026, will now be held from 25 July to 16 August 2026 in Morocco

The 2026 edition will be the 16th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations and will feature 16 teams, with Nigeria’s Super Falcons defending their title after winning the previous edition.
The tournament will also serve as part of Africa’s qualification pathway for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Braz
