Pep Guardiola speaks on Man City's transfer market spending

SHARE

Manchester City have been the talk of the town when it comes to how much they spend whenever the football transfer window opens.

The former Premier League Champions were ranked as the number one team in England that spent the most at the just concluded 2026 January transfer window. Pep Guardiola was asked what he thinks about how much Manchester City have spent in the last transfer window.

He said,

"I am a little bit sad and upset because in net spend in the last five years, City are seventh in the Premier League. I want us to be first. I don't understand how the club don't spend more money. We won in the past because we spent a lot, now six teams have to win the Premier League, the UCL, and the FA Cup, because they've spent more in the last five years. These are the facts. Good luck to the six teams who are in front of us in net spent in the last five years, let's go! I'm waiting."

Manchester City have not experienced success in the last two seasons as they achieved in the previous five seasons which has been a major concern for the supporters of the Cityzens.

The former Champions are currently in second place on the Premier League table behind Arsenal with six points and ahead of Aston Villa with just one point. However, the season can get better if they can get past Newcastle United to seal a place in the final of the Carabao Cup.

How many players did Manchester City sign during the January 2026 transfer window?

In the January 2026 transfer window, Manchester City signed two players on permanent deals — Antoine Semenyo from Bournemouth and Marc Guéhi from Crystal Palace strengthening their squad in attack and defence during the mid-season window.
