Xabi Alonso breaks silence on his dismissal at Real Madrid

Xabi Alonso has broken his silence following his shock dismissal as Real Madrid head coach, describing the decision as “painful but part of football” while expressing pride in his time at the club.

Alonso broke silence on the club’s decision to terminate his contract just eight months after he was announced as Real Madrid head coach.

In a brief statement released on his official Instagram account shortly after his sacking, Alonso thanked the Real Madrid hierarchy, players, and fans for their support, insisting he leaves with his “head held high” despite the shocking end to his tenure.

He said,

"This professional stage is over, and it didn't go as we would have liked. Coaching Real Madrid has been an honor and a responsibility. I thank the club, the players and above all the fans and Madrid fans for their trust and support. I leave with respect, gratitude, and pride that I did my best."

The former midfielder admitted the outcome was not what he had hoped for, but stressed that he takes full responsibility for the team’s performances. “When results don’t meet the club’s standards, these decisions happen. Alonso also reserved special praise for the players, highlighting their professionalism during a challenging period.

He acknowledged the intense pressure that comes with managing Real Madrid, calling it an honour and a huge responsibility hat will always cherish.
