Morocco begins AFCON 2025 quest with victory over Comoros

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Africa’s premier mnational team officially kicked off with an interesting opening fixture between Monday, on Sunday, 21 December 2025, with a much-anticipated opening match between hosts Morocco and Comoros in Rabat.
The game between both sides lived up to the expectation of everyone football fan around the world especially as Comoros were able to hold the host nations to a breathtaking first half especially after they missed penalty by Morocco. However, the second half was all about the home supporters getting the full value of their money when Ibrahim Diaz scored the first goal of the tournament which gave Morocco the lead inside the ten minutes of the second half.
The North Africa giants showed why the world when Ayoub El Kaabi scored what could end upon being the goal of the game in what has been by many as the goal of the tournament.
This fixture marked the start of the 35th edition of the competition, which runs until 18 January 2026, featuring 24 teams competing across Morocco in six host cities. game lived up to the expectations of every football around.
