Portable stirs controversy ahead of 2027 elections

Controversial street pop artist Habeeb Olalomi Badmus, better known as Portable, has sparked reactions online after declaring that he will not pledge loyalty to any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Instead, the singer says his support will go to whichever candidate or party offers him money first.
In a video collage shared on Instagram, Portable made it clear that he would not go hungry for the sake of politics. He urged political parties to approach him with money, insisting that his endorsement would go to the “highest bidder.” He specifically mentioned Labour Party’s Peter Obi, President Bola Tinubu, and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), saying whoever reaches him first with financial support will secure his backing as well as the influence he holds over his fans.
“My fans, vote for whoever you want, but me, I will only support the one who gives me money for the 2027 elections. Whoever drops money first between Peter Obi, Tinubu, or PDP is the one I will endorse,” he said.
Portable, who recently flaunted his children online, explained that he has responsibilities and cannot afford to let his family or close associates suffer while aligning with a political party. He recalled his previous experiences in politics, noting that despite once supporting Senator Solomon Adeola, he still ended up in prison, and that Seyi Tinubu, a friend of his, has never given him money.
The singer also criticized the public for expecting him to campaign freely while he spends his own money on food distribution. “I use my money to buy rice and give to fans. People should not spoil my life with rice. If I’m using my voice to campaign for you, you should support me financially,” he said.
His comments follow earlier complaints about his encounter with Peter Obi in Benin City, Edo State, where he claimed the Labour Party flagbearer gave him nothing more than a handshake, unlike President Tinubu, who he credited with “changing his life” after meeting his son Seyi Tinubu in July.
The blunt remarks of Portable once again underline his controversial approach to politics and public life, as he insists financial benefit will determine his political loyalty in 2027 elections.
