Chelsea's defender, Wesley Fofana is the latest player to receive racial abuse during and after a football match.

The French defender was racially abused by some supporters of Arsenal Football Club during the game against Chelsea at the Emirates on Sunday, March 16, 2025. Wesley Fofana shared screenshots of some of the insults that were directed to him via social media.

Fofana called for things to change and also asked the social media platforms to take action against the people responsible.

He said,

In "2025, stupidity and cruelty can no longer hide. It's not just football; it's not just a 'game' when some believe that their skin colour makes them superior to others. It's time for things to change, for platforms to take action, and everyone to take responsibility."

What did the Premier League say about racial abuse against Wesley Fofana?

The Premier League said they were disappointed by the abuse suffered by Fofana and that they will work with social media platforms and authorities to ensure the individuals found guilty get to be punished.

"The Premier League is appalled by the abuse suffered by Chelsea's Wesley Fofana after their match against Arsenal. We will offer our full support to Wesley and the club. We work with the social media platforms and the authorities to ensure any individuals found guilty of abuse face the strongest possible consequences. Football is for everyone and there is no place for discrimination in our game, or wider society."

This is the second time that Fofana will call out racial comments whenever he gets affected directly or indirectly.
