David Moyes reveals Man United's biggest challenge
Former Man United manager David Moyes has spoken about what he believes is the biggest challenge facing the club.
The West Ham manager pointed out that the problem is not related to either the current manager or the players.
David Moyes expressed support for the decision to retain Erik Ten Hag as manager, despite rumours of his potential dismissal earlier in the summer. According to Moyes, the biggest challenge for Man United is not within the team, but rather their fierce rivals, Manchester City.
Although Manchester United finished eighth in the Premier League, they did secure the FA Cup. However, Moyes is skeptical about their chances of catching up to the champions, who are aiming for their fifth consecutive title in the 2024-25 season.
Manchester United is set to face Liverpool in their final pre-season friendly this weekend before taking on Manchester City in the Community Shield on August 10, 2024. Erik ten Hag’s first Premier League game of the 2024/2025 season will be against Fulham.

Moyes commented, "Erik ten Hag is facing challenges right now, but he’s performed well given the immense pressure on him. Sometimes, issues with the manager become easy excuses for players. In the past, United had an incredible winning culture within the club. Ten Hag has been battling for the past two years, and let’s not forget he’s won two trophies during that time. I admire his determination to fight back against criticism."
Moyes added, "There was a situation over the summer where people were questioning his job security, and I disagree with that. I think it’s unfair to put the manager in that position, but he’s handled it with great dignity. He’s returned, determined to challenge and fight back, wanting to make things right. Overall, United’s biggest problem isn’t their manager or players, it’s Manchester City and Pep Guardiola."
