Chelsea confirms its seventh summer signing of the season

Chelsea Football Club have confirmed the signing of Filip Jorgensen from Villarreal who is the latest player to join the Blues ahead of the 2024/25 season.

The Danish International signed a seven-year deal with the Blues which will keep him at the club until 2032. He will be joining his new teammates during the 2024 summer tour in the United States of America. According to reports, the 22-year-old joined the Blues in a deal which is worth €24.5m (£20.6m) as he looks to break into the first time under Enzo Maresca.

What did Filip Jorgensen say about his move to Chelsea?

The goalkeeper expressed his delight on the club's website during his first interview after his unveiling to the supporters.

"This move is a dream come true. I am very excited to have signed for Chelsea, one of the biggest clubs in the world. I can't wait to get to know everyone and to start playing with all my new teammates"

This move brings to an end to his nine-year spell in Villarreal, having joined the Yellow Submarine from Mallorca in the summer of 2015. Before making his senior debut for Villarreal, Jorgensen clinched a Europa League winners' medal, having made the bench for the Spanish giants during their triumphant run in the 2020-21 competition.

The 22-year-old played his first game for Villarreal during the 2021/22 season in a Copa del Rey tie, but did not break into Villarreal's number-one goalkeeper until the 2023-24 campaign.

Jorgensen becomes the seventh player to sign for Chelsea this 2024 summer transfer window, following the arrival of Tosin Adarabioyo, Caleb Wiley, Marc Guiu, Omari Kellyman, Renato Veiga and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to West London.
