On Friday, July 12, 2024, it was reported that Evra received a 12-month suspended prison sentence for abandoning his family for over two years. The football star was said to have owed up to £800,000 in alimony payments to his ex-wife, Sandra.

In addition to the suspended sentence, Evra has been ordered to pay €4,000 (£3,300/$4,300) for moral damages and €2,000 (£1,600/$2,100) in legal costs.

How did Evra react to his suspended prison sentence?

Patrice Evra through his lawyers has appealed the verdict and, judging by his Instagram response, does not seem to be taking the matter too seriously.

Evra’s lawyer, Jerome Boursican has stated that the football star disputes the claims made by his former partner, asserting that he provided her with an apartment, a house with a swimming pool and also a sum o over 1 million euros.

He said, "Mr Patrice Evra filed an appeal, knowing that he provided his wife with an apartment, a house with a swimming pool in the south of France and that he lent her almost two million euros for her daily life. That is a sum that she refuses to return, which is the reason for this trial."

Evra has since moved on and now has two children with Margaux Alexandra, although his divorce from Sandra has not yet been finalized.
