Here is why English referee Anthony Taylor has reportedly left the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament after the Spain vs Germany Euro 2024 fixture.

Following what many have deemed questionable officiating in the Germany vs Spain quarter-final fixture by Anthony Taylor, the English referee has reportedly left the Euro 2024 tournament.

A petition has been circulating, demanding punishment for English Premier League referee Anthony Taylor due to his performance in Germany's defeat to Spain. Anthony Taylor has reportedly left the Euro 2024 tournament and will not be expected to officiate the final match in Berlin, even if England reaches the final stage.

Taylor officiated the match between Spain and Germany in Cologne, where Mikel Merino’s 119th-minute header secured Spain's victory.

During the first half of extra time in a game tied at 1-1, referee Anthony Taylor faced significant criticism for denying Germany's penalty claim.

Germany's forward, Jamal Musiala, shot the ball from just outside the area, and it hit Spain's Marc Cucurella's hand. However, neither referee Anthony Taylor nor VAR official Stuart Attwell awarded a penalty to Julian Nagelsmann’s side.

Spain eliminated the tournament hosts in the quarter-finals, and despite the exciting match, all celebrations were marred by controversy surrounding whether it was a penalty or not.

According to the Daily Mail UK, over 32,000 fans signed a petition demanding Taylor be penalized for this perceived error and for the quarter-final to be replayed. This was also categorized as a reason for Anthony Taylor's rumoured return to England rather than continuing with the tournament.
