Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry has criticized the BBC after they used a mocking caption to describe Portugal’s captain Cristiano Ronaldo missing a penalty in the Portugal vs Slovenia EURO 2024 round of 16 fixture.
In extra time, Ronaldo was given the opportunity to give Portugal the lead, but his shot was saved by Atletico Madrid's goalkeeper Jan Oblak. His teammates had to comfort him as he broke down in tears during the game.
The BBC sparked outrage among fans and pundits after it mockingly captioned a replay of the penalty miss as "Misstiano Penaldo." Chelsea legend John Terry took to Instagram to slam the caption, calling it a "disgrace," while fans also criticized the corporation for being "unprofessional."
Having failed to score during the group stage, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner Ronaldo was determined to make a decisive contribution in the last-16 showdown with Slovenia.
