Wizkid says he's not an Afrobeat artist, announces new album

Nigerian singer Wizkid has denounced being an Afrobeat artist. He also announced the completion of his latest studio album.

In a series of random Instagram posts, Grammy award-winning artist, Wizkid has denounced being an afrobeat musician. Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as Wizkid is one of Nigeria's most commercially successful and influential African recording artists. Various International and local publications, media houses, and blogs have referred to Wizkid as an Afrobeat musician. The melodic singer has denounced the genre completely.

The melodic crooner took to social media to announce the completion of his latest album. The new album, titled Morayo, is a tribute to his late mother and marks Wizkid's sixth studio album. Jane Dolapo Balogun passed away on August 18, 2023, and was laid to rest in October of the same year. In 2014, Wizkid released Mummy Mi, a track from his Ayo album dedicated to mothers worldwide.

Based on his multiple Instagram updates, the singer asserts that his forthcoming record is his finest work yet. Through his social media updates, Wizkid stated that the forthcoming album resembles his 2011 hit track Pakurumo. He further suggested that if fans were not fond of that particular song, they should consider removing him from their playlists and reevaluating him as their favorite artist.

Additionally, he has issued several cautionary messages. He also cautioned Nigerian blogs and media outlets against posting about his new album.
