Nigeria enters top 30 in FIFA Men's World Ranking for 2024

Nigeria following an impressive outing at AFCON 2023 has moved 14 places to hold a slot in the top 30 Men's football World Ranking by FIFA for 2024.

The latest accomplishment of the Super Eagles of Nigeria was confirmed in an official announcement by the world football governing body FIFA on all platforms today, Thursday, February 15, 2024. The announcement confirms that Nigeria is now ranked 28th on the FIFA World Ranking of 2024 for Men's football.

Nigeria was however not the only country that moved up on the rankings as Morocco moved up one spot to hold a new position of 12th, Senegal moved up three spots to the 17th position, AFCON 2023 champions Ivory Coast moved up 10 places to a new ranking of 39, with Mali and South Africa both moving up to the 47th and 58th position respectively.

For Africa, countries like Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt and Cameroon all moved down on the rankings for 2024.

FIFA in its official reports confirmed that the AFC Asian Cup and AFCON both played a huge role in influencing the recent positions held on the ranking. The football body stated, "Although it is a case of as you were amongst the ten teams that lead the way in the latest edition of the FIFA/Coca-Cola Men’s World Ranking, there is plenty of movement further down the standings following the matches contested in the CAF Africa Cup of Nations and the AFC Asian Cup. Indeed, across the two continents, no fewer than six teams have scaled ten places or more."
