Davido, J Hus, and Black Sherif headline the electric AfroFuture Festival
AfroFuture Festival, formerly known as Afrochella, took place in Accra, Ghana's El Wak Stadium, on December 28 and 29. The festival featured Afrobeats superstar Davido, UK rapper J Hus, and Ghanaian rapper Black Sherif as headliners.
Davido and AG Baby, also known as Adekunle Gold, delivered an electrifying performance at the Afrofuture festival. The crowd went wild as AG Baby switched from just performing High to an energetic dance, and the performance went from mid to a hundred. Davido, J Hus, and Black Sherif also thrilled the crowd with their energetic performances.
Black Sherif, who won the BET Hip-Hop Award for Best International Flow, dropped drill-influenced rap tracks like Second Sermon and Kweku the Traveller. Davido, an icon of Nigerian afrobeats, released his album Timeless in March 2023, which boasted contributions from the likes of Dexta Daps, Focalistic, and Skepta, and scored No. 1 on Nigeria's TurnTable Albums chart. J Hus, on the other hand, released his album Beautiful and Brutal Yard in July 2023.
The festival's guiding theme this year was "Black Unification & Pan Africanism," with activations across art, fashion, and food. AfroFuture also hosted a two-week expo of wellness sessions, screenings, and panel discussions, an entrepreneurial pitch competition in partnership with Pharrell Williams' non-profit Black, a film competition, and a community service day.
The festival's theme of "Black Unification & Pan Africanism" aimed to honour the achievements of Black culture and innovation and delve into the global connections and shared experiences of African people. AfroFuture also contributed to the growth of Ghana's tourism and hospitality sectors by showcasing all that Ghana has to offer.
