IFAB set to introduce orange cards in football

The International Football Association Board (IFAB) has agreed in principle to introduce the rugby style measure in top football league starting from next season.

The new rule is called the Sin-bins which is set to be introduced into professional football after the game’s officials decided to put to test this new rule. This have worked successfully for many years at the grassroots and youth level and the new trials could also see them used to punish tactical fouling.

it is understood that the trial will extend to cynical fouls, the major example that was given is Italy defender Giorgio Chiellini’s shirt-pull on England’s Bukayo Saka in the Euro 2020 final, which resulted in a yellow card only.

If the Sin-bins was in practice then, it means an orange card would have been issued to Chiellini instead of a yellow card. This invariably means when a player gets an orange card, the player can be asked by the referee to sit out the game for maybe ten minutes as it is done in Rugby.
