Pep Guardiola speaks on Manchester City signing Gvardiol

In his press conference ahead of the community shield fixture against Arsenal on Sunday, August 6, 2023, Pep Guardiola spoke on Manchester City signing Gvardiol.

Pep Guardiola has spoken about Manchester City signing Josko Gvardiol from RB Leipzig and indirectly addressing rumours surrounding the player and the club as a whole.

Pep confirmed that the star defender is currently doing his medicals with the champions of Europe and hinted that the deal had been finalized. However, the head coach didn't confirm or deny if Josko Gvardiol is now the most expensive defender in the premier league, as reports from sports journalists such as Fabrizio Romano indicate.

He said, "Gvardiol, what a beautiful surname he has! He is doing a medical test. Everybody knows he is here. Hopefully, we can finish the deal in the next few hours/days."

The manager also spoke about Bernardo Silva leaving the Etihad, and he said, “I want to work with guys who want to stay … but after that we have to get an offer … a proper offer. If they want him, they will take a plane, come here and talk with our sporting director, the CEO, to arrive at an agreement. For us to buy a player is £10-15m more expensive than other clubs, all the time it’s like that. … When we lose these type of players we have to go to the market to buy replacements, and it doesn’t cost £10m, £20m, £30m, £40m, £50m – it’s more expensive than that.”
