Edwin van der Saar gives update on his health condition

Former Manchester United player, Edwin van de Saar has given an update on his current health condition.

The Dutch international gave the update on his official Twitter account on Tuesday evening where he confirmed that he was out of the Intensive Care Unit but was still in the hospital. He was earlier admitted to the hospital where it was confirmed that he was bleeding around his brain.

Van de Saar posted a picture of himself sitting up in a hospital bed with his arm around his wife. He said he looks forward to returning home next week as he continues his recovery process.

"First of all, we want to thank everyone for all the great and supportive messages. I am happy to share that I’m no longer in the intensive care unit. However, I’m still in hospital. I hope to go home next week and take the next step in my recovery."

He played for Ajax, Juventus and Manchester United, and made 130 appearances for the Netherlands. The 52-year-old retired from playing football in 2011, he was Ajax's director general until he stepped down at the end of the 2022/23 season, saying he was exhausted and needed to take a break.
