The right-back suffered an injury in the Blues UEFA Champions League game against AC Milan at San Siro on Tuesday, October 11th, 2022. According to reports from the club, the injury to James' knee was more severe than was earlier expected.

The head coach of the Blues, Graham Potter has confirmed that the player is due to see a specialist in order to know the length of the injury.

He is due to see a specialist over the weekend so until we get that information I can not add more. It would be speculation from my perspective. We need to check the discomfort and see a specialist, that's all I know. He spoke to me yesterday shd said he did not feel too bad but until it is checked you will never know. We will wait and see, there is no point looking at a worst-case scenario.

James is expected to be out for at least six to eight weeks which will be a blow for Graham Potter and Chelaea supporters as they look to secure qualification in the Champions League. England will also be hit with the absence of the player, as they are currently without Kyle Walker and James as they look to win the World Cup for the first time since 1966.

The coach of England Gareth Southgate will now have to choose between Newcastle's Kieran Trippier, who has filled in at left-back for the Three Lions, and Liverpool's Trent Alexander-Arnold.
