The game saw Lionel Messi play against Real Madrid for the first time since he left Barcelona. It was also the first time Sergio Ramos was facing Real Madrid, a club where he spent most of his football career.
Notjustok has decided to highlight five talking points from the game.
(1) Kylian Mbappe is in a different class:
Hot stories
The 23-year-old won the game for Paris Saint-Germain against Real Madrid with a 93rd minute strike to cause a heart break for the Galacticos. He enjoyed a lot of pace running through the Real Madrid midfield and defence connecting to passes from Lionel Messi. The French player had a great chance in the first twenty minutes of the game but he could not beat Courtois in goal. He also created a chance when he was brought down in the penalty area by Casemiro.
(2) The Game was Mostly Defensive:
Both Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain had more players in their penalty area than they have in that of their opposition. Carlo Ancelotti and Mauricio Pouchettino did not want to give any room for mistakes, hence their defensive approach to the game.
(3) Benzema and Vinicius Jnr:
The forward players have scored more than 30 goals between themselves this season and if Real Madrid will want to qualify for the quarter-final then both players must bring out their scoring abilities in the second leg of the game.
(4) Mbappe and Messi:
Both players unlike Benzema and Vinicius Jnr do not have a lot of goals between them for PSG, but the experience of Messi and his ability to ensure his passes get to Mbappe has to be perfect. If both players can create a better chemistry beyerdm themselves then the Ligue 1 club will have an advantage qualifying to the next round.
(5) Thibaut Courtois:
The Belgian number one shot-stopper was the key difference between both teams as he stopped PSG's forward players from finding the back of the net. Courtois stopped Mbappe from finding the back of the net and also saved a penalty from Messi.
