CAF President Gives Update on AFCON | Read

President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Patrice Motsepe has given an update concerning the Africa Cup of Nations, which is to be hosted in Cameroon.

Motsepe was speaking in a press conference which was reported by Sky Sports after meeting with the President of Cameroon, Paul Biya on Tuesday, December 21st, 2021. According to the report, the competition will go ahead in January as planned despite the outbreak of the omicron variant of Covid-19.

I am going to be here on January 7 and I am coming to watch football. I am coming to watch on January 9 ( the opening match between Cameroon against Burkina Faso). I will also be around to see when the trophy is handed over. We must always identify problems and challenges and not shy away from them. We must have the confidence and the belief that we can overcome them. Nobody will be allowed into the stadium without a negative PCR test. We will have to protect the fans that are there. Of course, there will be concerns about fake tests going around, but we are dealing with those issues. We have to have confidence and belief in ourselves as Africans. And we have to have confidence and belief that we can host a very successful Nations Cup in Cameroon.

The competition which is the 33rd edition will start on January 9th 2022 and run till February 6th, 2022.
