This contract extension makes him the fourth first-team player to extend their contract this transfer window. The contract extension was announced on Liverpool's website. Trent Alexander-Arnold, Fabinho, and Alisson Becker all renewed their contracts last month.
Van Dijk has not played competitive football since October 2020, after he got injured in a game between Liverpool and Everton. The injury made the defender suffer an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury, which ruled him out of the season.
The Dutch defender could not represent the Netherlands in the just concluded Euro 2020 because of the injury. Liverpool fans will hope the defender picks up his form immediately as the new season starts.
