Davido takes 10th on The 10 Hottest Artists In Nigeria List #TheList2016
#TheList Season is back for the 4th consecutive year!
Back in 2013, notjustOk.com kickstarted a “Top 10” trend which was eventually nicknamed “The List” by artists, fans, OAPs and Nigerian music listeners in general. The different lists compiled by the notjustOk Team – particularly the “Most Gifted Rappers” list – caused a stir across the industry and it was certainly an exciting period for artists and fans alike. For that reason, we decided to make it a yearly thing.
We’re fully into the final quarter of 2016, and in the last 12-15 months, we’ve witnessed the growth of several superstars with hit songs, tours, endorsements and more.
The 10 Hottest Artists in Nigeria 2016 list takes into account the hottest names in Nigerian music from the tail-end of 2015 till date. For the rest of the week, we’ll systematically reveal all 10 names on #TheList2016.

10. Davido
O.B.O makes his 4th consecutive appearance on #TheList2016! For the first time, Davido slips off the Top 3 slots down to 10, largely due to relative inactivity music-wise in 2016.
Davido started the year on a mad high, inking an international deal with Sony Music Global, a first for a mainstream Nigerian artist. He followed it up in February by becoming the Cover star of US Magazine, Fader. In March, Davido headlined the Fader Fort stage as well as the "Sounds From Africa" stage at SXSW 2016; also a first for a Nigerian act. April saw Davido become a Pepsi Ambassador, signing for an undisclosed fee.
While those were massive moves, not much really happened on the music end, which was quite unusual for the back-to-back African artist of the year. Davido wrapped up 2015 with the hit single "The Money" featuring Olamide, the popular Dammy Krane collaboration "Izzue", and then stunned everyone with his controversial line on the remix to Humblesmith's hit debut "Osinachi". Davido also gets credit for stealing the shine off Falz and Olamide in "Bahd Baddo Baddest" by making another Dele Momodu reference... and then largely went cold.
No single, No EP, No album.. till October 1. For this reason, Davido drops to a career-low #10. That said, with the release of the Son of Mercy EP, we fully expect the Son of Mercy to climb back up the charts and #TheList2017!
