Manchester City has been sanctioned and fined over £2 million by the Premier League for breaking a rule by delaying the start of matches in the previous 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 seasons of the competition.
This sanction comes from an agreement between the club and the league regarding 22 separate offences, all occurring within the past two seasons.
One notable incident was the delay of 2 minutes and 46 seconds to the start of the second half in their final game of last season against West Ham, a match that secured their fourth consecutive title.
The fines vary from £10,000 to £200,000, with the highest fine resulting from the West Ham game. Most of the infractions, 18 in total, involved delays in restarting after halftime, with one delay occurring at the beginning of a match against Newcastle United last August.

Manchester City accepted the Premier League's decision, which was confirmed by an independent three-person panel.
A Premier League statement explained, "The breaches relate to a number of Premier League matches during the 2022/23 and 2023/24 seasons. Rules regarding kick-offs and restarts ensure the competition maintains the highest professional standards and provides certainty for fans and participating clubs. They also ensure the timely broadcast of all 380 league matches worldwide."
In total, Pep Guardiola's team was found to have delayed restarts by 39 minutes and 52 seconds across 23 late kick-offs in 22 games over the last two seasons.
