David Silva retires from football after severe injury

Former Manchester City player, David Silva has announced his retirement from the game after suffering an injury in training.

The Spaniard confirmed the decision on his official social media accounts on Thursday, July 27, 2023. According to him, today is the saddest day of his career.

"Today is a sad day for me. Today it is time to say goodbye to what I have dedicated my whole life to. Today it is time to say goodbye to my colleagues, who are like family to me. I will miss you very much. Ches (Valencia), Armeros (Eibar), Celtinas (Celta Vigo), Citizens (Man City) and Txuri Urdines (Real Sociedad) thank you because you have made me feel at home."

David Silva played ten years of his football career which Manchester City joined from Valencia in 2010. He played more than 400 times for the club, winning four Premier League titles.

The 37-year-old joined Real Sociedad in 2020, after leaving Manchester City. He decided to retire after sustaining an anterior cruciate ligament injury in a pre-season training session.
