Essence was certified gold in the United States after it surpassed the minimum requirement of 500,000 unit sales in the country. Announcing the news via Instagram, Wizkid's official fan page, @wizkidnews wrote;

NEWS ? @wizkidayo’s “Essence” featuring @temsbaby is now certified GOLD in the United States for sales of 500,000+ units! ???

Many did expect Essence to become Gold Certified after the Wizkid and Tems collab became the song of the summer in the United States. So huge was the song that American pop star, Justin Bieber reached out to feature on the song and in doing so, lifted its pedigree even more. Now Essence is climbing all the charts in the United States, so are Wizkid and Tems. The latter just featured on Drake's new album and is set to drop a new project of her own.
