Music Canada has announced the Platinum certification of Wizkid and Drake’s 2017 single ‘Come Closer’, one week after the visuals for ‘Ginger’ was released.
Music Canada, an association which represent the interests of companies that record, manufacture, produce, and distribute music in Canada via their, Twitter handle on the 15th of January 2021 announced that ‘Come Closer’ is now officially certified platinum. The post reads;
"Come Closer," the 2017 single by Nigerian artist @wizkidayo ft. @Drake, is now officially certified Canadian Platinum!

According to their site, Music Canada recognizes the following Single Award tiers: Gold: 40,000 Units. Platinum: 80,000 Units. Multi-Platinum: 160,000 Units (increments of 80,000 thereafter)
This is the first time a song by a African-based musician would be certified platinum in Canada. Therefore, Wizkid is officially the first African musician to go platinum in Canada.
