Nigerian gospel singer Tope Alabi created a heartfelt moment at her daughter Ayomiku Mary Alabi’s wedding party by performing Running (To You), a 2020 hit by Chike featuring Simi, as a special tribute to her husband, Soji Alabi.

The wedding celebration was an intimate gathering of close family and friends. As part of the festivities, Tope Alabi’s decision to sing the romantic ballad—featuring lyrics like “I’ll be running to you, running to you, no looking back”—transformed the event into a dual celebration, not only of Ayomiku’s new chapter but also of Tope and Soji’s enduring love.

Tope and Soji’s relationship dates back to 1994, when he worked as a sound engineer on her Yoruba film projects, eventually leading to their marriage in 1998. Over two decades later, Soji remains a crucial part of her life, managing her career and organizing her annual Praise the Almighty concert.

The performance was a touching tribute to Soji’s unwavering support, as Tope Alabi passionately sang: “I’ll be a soldier for you… you should know I got you.” The moment resonated deeply with those in attendance, adding an emotional highlight to the already joyous occasion.

Just last month, Tope Alabi publicly honored her husband by presenting him with the "Husband of the Year" award at her 15th annual worship event in Lagos. Her surprise performance at the wedding of her daughter further reinforced the strength of their bond, making it a memorable moment for Tope Alabi, her family and fans alike.
