Grammy-winning Nigerian singer Tems has opened up about her remarkable rise to global fame, revealing that her achievements today are far greater than anything she imagined during her years working a regular 9-to-5 job.

The award-winning artist shared the emotional reflection during an interactive session with fans on X (formerly Twitter), where she responded to questions about her growth and future goals. When a fan asked what she was currently looking forward to and whether she had already achieved the dreams she had before stardom, Tems gave a heartfelt answer. She said she was looking forward to whatever God has planned for her and admitted that she had already “achieved beyond my dreams from when I had a 9-5.”

Her response quickly resonated with fans, many of whom praised her inspiring journey from an independent artist in Lagos to one of the most influential voices in contemporary music. Tems, born Temilade Openiyi, left her job as a digital marketer in 2018 to pursue music full-time, a decision that marked a major turning point in her life.

Her breakthrough came in 2020 with her feature on Wizkid’s global hit Essence, which later received a remix featuring Justin Bieber and climbed to No. 9 on the Billboard Hot 100. The success of the record introduced her to international audiences and paved the way for her rise as a global superstar.

Tems has since made history on some of the world’s biggest stages. In 2023, she became the first female Afrobeats artist to win a Grammy Award for her contribution to Future’s hit song Wait for U. The following year, she further cemented her impact by winning the newly introduced Best African Music Performance category at the 65th Grammy Awards for her solo track Born in the Wild.

With her continued global acclaim and growing influence, Tems remains one of the most significant voices shaping the next chapter of African music worldwide.
