Nigerian music sensation Chike has won the love of many with his mix of R&B, Igbo indigenous music, and Afrobeats in his new single, Egwu.
His latest achievement includes securing the top spot on the TurnTable Top 100 chart in Nigeria, which looks at radio and TV play, along with streaming from places like Apple Music, Spotify, Audiomack, and Boomplay. This is according to a statement on their official social media (X) page on Monday, January 22, 2024.
Chike made a big impact with his hit song Egwu, which topped the charts. The song features the late singer, Mohbad. Since its release in December 2023, Egwu has become hugely popular, especially on social media with over 400,000 TikTok videos using it. Additionally, the song has racked up an impressive 5.9 million streams on Spotify in just one month.
'Egwu' now stands as Chike's highest-ranking entry on the TurnTable Top 100, surpassing his previous hit 'Running' remix with Simi, which reached the top 5. For late Mohbad, this marks his second No. 1 entry on the chart, with his previous track Ask About Me holding the position for one week.
The success of 'Egwu' further contributes to the posthumous commercial resurgence of late Mohbad's music since his passing in September 2023. Songs from his EPs Light and Blessed continue to soar on streaming platforms, solidifying his status as a hitmaker even beyond the realms of the living. As Chike and Mohbad's collaboration continues to receive accolades, the late artist's legacy lives on through his enduring impact on the music scene.
