The Plaque also officially reaffirms that March 2 will be the official Burna Boy Day. According to the city of Boston council, Burna Boy "proudly embraces his Nigerian and African identity infusing it with contemporary sounds to create that resonates with audiences thereby challenging stereotypes about African artistry".
Burna Boy is the first and only African artist to sell out the 20,000-capacity TD Garden in Boston, USA. With his official day, Burna Boy joins Wizkid (October 6) and Davido (July 7) as Nigerian musicians with their official day in the United States. The African giant received a nomination for International Artist of the Year at the 2024 BRIT Awards. Unfortunately, he lost this category to American R&B singer SZA.
