Tuchel was speaking in a press conference ahead of the Blues game against Tottenham on Sunday, September 19th, 2021. According to reports from Sky Sports, the manager is optimistic that his fellow countryman will sign a new contract when the time comes.

He also said the decision to sign a new contract also depends on the player's agent.

I hope they find a solution, but it's not only between coaches and players. It's between the club and the player's agent. He plays excellent for a long time, very consistent at a very high level. I feel him very calm, very focused, and it's obviously not a distraction for him.

So give things time. Sometimes it needs a bit longer, sometimes things get very fast. There's no news from my side.

Tuchel also said, Rudiger is respected by his teammates and he is an important part of the team.

I think Toni feels very good at Chelsea. He feels respect from his teammates; he feels the importance he has in the team. It's well deserved because he delivers.

He feels the love from the supporters. He plays in the strongest league in Europe and in a big club, so not many reasons to change. But it's in good hands. I'm calm and relaxed. Whatever has to happen will happen.

Rudiger was close to leaving Chelsea under former manager Frank Lampard, but he has since been a key part of the team that won the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Super Cup under Thomas Tuchel.
