The German was speaking in a press conference ahead of the Carabao semi-final game against Tottenham on Wednesday, January 4th, 2022. Lukaku was committed from the match-day squad over the weekend against Liverpool, because of the interview, the Belgian had with Sky Sports Italy some weeks ago.

Romelu Lukaku apologised, and he is back in the squad. For me was important to understand that the interview was not intentional from Romelu. This is not as big as people want it to be, it is not small, but we can stay calm and accept his apologies. There is zero doubts to Romelu Lukaku's commitment to the team. He is very committed, that is why it was so surprising. He never created any problem. He is a very emotional guy. I hope the supporters can take this also and support the team. It is time to move on.

He also spoke about what the present relationship will be between Chelsea fans and the players following the outburst by most of the fans on social media.

Romelu is very aware of what happened and what he created. He feels the responsibility of cleaning up the mess. Maybe we will have a bit of smell from it, but he can handle it. He has no other choice. He is our player.

He also spoke about Rudiger's contract situation at the club, after reports have it that the German agents have started having pre-contract talks with other clubs.

I can not predict the future. I do not know if his agents are talking with other clubs, now it is possible. I am sure he knows how much I rate him. We are in communication with him. The club is trying the very best.

Chelsea have Andreas Christensen, César Azpilicueta and Antonio Rudiger all in the final six months of his contract.
